The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) is the state financial regulatory agency of the Republic of Cyprus, with special partnership through the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (miFID) of the European Union. Because of its (considerably) former status as a "tax haven" and its relatively lax regulation systems compared to other mainland European financial regulators, over two-hundred foreign exchange brokers, most of them foreign, have set up offices in Cyprus, with all or most of them looking at and setting up online branches throughout Europe. Furthermore, CySEC is the first national financial regulator to standardize binary options for brokers under its system, granting ten licenses to those who use such a system. Besides finding numerous brokers in the CySEC website, one can also file complaints in regards to any problem with the broker or the inner workings of the regulatory system. This accountability has made CySEC a forerunner in forex trading.
